Amaravati Quantum Valley: India's First Quantum Tech Park Is Taking Shape

Alongside Amaravati's new government towers, a quieter but bolder project is taking shape: Quantum Valley, India's first dedicated quantum computing hub. Backed by IBM, TCS, and L&T, and already home to the country's first indigenous quantum facility, it's Andhra Pradesh's bet on becoming a global centre for quantum research and manufacturing. While Amaravati's Secretariat towers climb skyward, something less visible but arguably more futuristic is rising alongside them: Amaravati Quantum Valley (AQV) — India's first dedicated quantum computing tech park, expected to draw around $1 billion in investment and mark South Asia's first project of its kind.

The Vision

AQV is designed as a full ecosystem — quantum computing, quantum communication, research, talent development, and testing infrastructure — all in one place. The goal is to turn Amaravati into a deep-tech hub the way earlier waves of investment built IT corridors in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

How It Started

The state first announced plans in March 2025 under India's National Quantum Mission. Big names signed on fast — in May 2025, IBM and Tata Consultancy Services partnered with the Andhra Pradesh government, with plans to anchor the park with an IBM Quantum System Two featuring a 156-qubit Heron processor, envisioned as India's most powerful quantum computer. L&T joined as a third partner.

The Foundation Stone

Nearly a year later, on February 7, 2026, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh and CM Chandrababu Naidu formally laid the foundation stone — this time targeting India's first 133-qubit quantum computer. The facility is meant to span research, manufacturing, and skill-building across quantum computing, AI, cybersecurity, healthcare, defence, and finance. Singh called it “not merely the foundation stone of a building, but the foundation stone of India’s quantum future.”

From Groundwork to Working Facilities

Things moved quickly after that. In March 2026, Naidu chaired a round-table with national bodies like DRDO, BARC, C-DAC, and C-DOT to plan out a domestic quantum hardware manufacturing ecosystem. Then, on April 14, 2026 — World Quantum Day — Andhra Pradesh became the first Indian state to commission indigenous quantum computing facilities, inaugurating the Amaravati Quantum Reference Facility at SRM University, with a second facility launched simultaneously near Vijayawada.

Beyond Hardware

The state has rolled out a full quantum policy covering talent, infrastructure, and international collaboration, plus a skilling partnership (WISER, Qubitech, QKrishi Quantum, and APSSDC) to build a homegrown quantum-education pipeline. The main Quantum Valley building itself is targeted for completion by December 2026. In a headline-grabbing move, the CM even pledged Rs 100 crore to any state resident who wins a future Nobel Prize.

Why It Matters

Quantum computing is still early-stage globally, but the regions building research and manufacturing capacity now are positioning themselves to lead once the technology matures. With IBM's hardware anchoring the park, a working reference facility already live, and serious central government backing, Amaravati Quantum Valley has moved unusually fast for a greenfield tech-hub project. Whether it becomes India's answer to Silicon Valley for quantum tech will come down to execution over the next few years — but the groundwork, literally and figuratively, is already laid.
